Birthstone May – May Birthstone Emerald and May Birthstone Jewelry

May Birthstone: Emerald Birthstones

Birthstone May? The birthstone for May is the emerald. The symbol of faith and kindness, emerald is closely associated with nature. In various traditions, the emerald has several curative and healing properties: when worn, the emerald was believed to be able to cure fever, epilepsy, dysentery.

Like the diamond, the emerald was also believed to be able to reveal the faithfulness of one’s lover.

Birthstone Color May

As the name itself suggests, emeralds have hues of natural green. If we were to trace the word to its origins in many ancient languages, emerald similarly means ‘green’.

More about the Emerald Birthstone – May’s Birthstone

May’s Birthstone has been a favorite among various prominent figures. Charlemagne’s crown is paved with emeralds, while Alexander the Great set a large emerald in his girdle.

During the Spanish Conquest, the Peruvians even worshipped an emerald as large as an ostrich egg, calling it the Goddess Umina. Smaller emeralds were then presented as ‘offerings’ to this goddess, in the belief that these smaller emeralds were the daughters of the goddess.
